Project Manager, Texas Music Office
Program Manager Steve Ray administers Texas Music Office’s programs like the Texas Music Office License Plate Grant program, the TMO internship program, and the day-to-day office travel schedule that allows the small 3 person team to be in multiple places at once, covering more than 50K miles of work travel in just one year. Additionally Steve heads up the TMO’s music history program, including developing a Texas Music Trails program that promotes music history tourism around the state.
Ray began his career in the music business in junior high school stocking LPs in his cousin’s record store. He spent several years working in a variety of record, and later CD, stores in the DFW area. At Dallas independent label Carpe Diem Records, Ray worked in sales and merchandising for Dallas favorites Course of Empire and Pop Poppins.
A native of Vernon, Texas, Ray graduated from Vernon High School and from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Minor in Business Administration. While attending the University he served one term in Student Congress.
He has taken the Rhino Records’ RMAT (Rhino Musical Aptitude Test – a music trivia quiz) each of the six times it was offered, both online and in person, and consistently places fifth.
