Jennilee Garza

Sr. Communications Coordinator, UTSA Institute for Economic Development

With ten years of experience in journalism, public relations and communications spread across the general news industry, local government relations and higher education, Jennilee provides a comprehensive approach to marketing and communications for large organizations. She earned a BA in English from The University of Texas at Austin and an MFA in Creative Writing from The University of Texas Pan-American. A proud product of the UT System, Jennilee has worked for UT Austin, UT Pan American, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and The University of Texas at San Antonio.  She started her career as a student working for The Daily Texan, then transitioned to KEYE CBS 42 News in Austin. Following her experiences in print and broadcast journalism, she moved into local government relations and worked as a Public Information Officer in the Rio Grande Valley. In 2016, Jennilee joined the UTSA Institute for Economic Development where she now oversees communications for 10 economic development centers.  She implements strategies for effective public relations, media relations, marketing and branding, social media management, and web content development. Jennilee bridges per passion for telling stories with innovative approaches that convey multifaceted messaging with cohesion and effectiveness.
