Ph.D., Vice President for Research and Professor, UT Health San Antonio
Andrea Giuffrida, Ph.D. is the Vice President for Research at UT Health San Antonio and a professor of pharmacology. He oversees the institutional research resources and the budget and operations of the Institutional Laboratory Animal Facility, Clinical Trials Office, Office of Clinical Research, Office of Technology Commercialization, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and Institutional Research Cores. He is actively involved in promoting new academia-industry partnerships and developing policies and educational platforms to foster entrepreneurial skills among faculty and students. Dr. Giuffrida also serves as a liaison to the University of Texas System’s Office of Federal Relations and UT Health’s Office of Government Relations. He currently serves on the board of directors of BioMedSA, a non-profit organization that promotes San Antonio’s biomedical industry in the United States and abroad, and he is on the board of trustees at Texas Research & Technology Foundation and at Texas Biomedical Research Institute. Giuffrida is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs. His research interests focus on the neuropharmacology of psychomotor disorders such as schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease. He is actively involved in many science and biotechnology networks throughout Texas, across the U.S. and internationally in Germany and Italy.
